What is the duration of the programme?

The normal duration for the programme is 1 year full-time.

When is the application period for next academic year?

The application for next academic year will start from the November 2018 to April 2019.

What is the tuition fee per year?

The tuition fee for the academic year 2019/20 is HK$100,000 for local students and HK$159,000 for non-local students in the payment schedule below:

Payment (non-refundable) in 3 parts:
Deposit (20% of tuition fee) – acceptance of admission offer
1st Installment – mid/end August
2nd Installment – mid/end December

What is the admission criteria and requirement for the MIBF programme?

Applicants should process a recognized good first degree in a relevant field. Candidates who lack sufficient background in Economics and Finance may be required to take a pre-term intensive course to their knowledge in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics & Statistics for Finance or Financial Management.

What is the language requirement?

As teaching will be mainly conducted in English, candidates are also required to demonstrate their proficiency in English. An applicant should obtain an IELTS overall band score of 6.5 or above. Applicants may be required to demonstrate his/her ability in English in the interview.

How to submit the application?

Online or paper applications are both accepted. Documents below should be attached upon the application:

- undergraduate degree diploma / certificate copy
- full transcript copy
- ID card / Passport copy
- IELTS / TOEFL results copy
- recommendation form / letters from 2 referees
- application fee (HK$450 for non-local applicants / HK$200 for local applicants)
- other supporting documents (if any)

What is the format of recommendation letter?

The official letter with the referee's signature or the completed recommendation form with the referee's true signature (i.e. original copy). The recommendation form can be download here.

When will release the admission results?

The admission results will be released no later than June 2019.

Is there any scholarship support by the University?

Scholarship and Financial Assistance
Maximum several full scholarships (including a full tuition waiver of HK$100,000 for local students and HK$159,000 for non-local students, plus a stipend of HK$50,000) will be offered each year for the best candidates. Moreover, other scholarships will be offered (amount up to HK$159,000) each year for excellent candidates. All students admitted to the programme will be automatically qualified for the award of scholarships. In addition, there will be a number of part-time research assistantships available in the Department every year.

Local students are eligible for applying the Non-means Tested Loan Scheme.
The Programme is also eligible for the support of the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) for Hong Kong students.

What is the course offering and credit exemption?

Course offer
This is a full-time, credit-based postgraduate programme. Students have to obtain minimum of 30 credits or 10 courses, which consists of 5 core cluster courses (15 credits) and 5 elective courses (15 credits) in order to graduate. The course offering depends on both the demand of students and the resource constraints of the Department. In principle, courses that are elected by less than 10 students may not be offered.

Credit Exemption
Application on credit exemption should be submitted to the Programme Director 6 weeks before class commences. No exemptions will be granted on elective courses. All applications will be assessed by the Programme Director in case by case basis.
