5 November 2021: Understanding China from its past: How prehistoric development still affects life today by Prof. CHEN Zhiwu

Prof. CHEN Zhiwu, the Director of the Asia Global Institute (AGI), Chair Professor of Finance, and Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics at the University of Hong Kong, was invited to deliver a guest lecture about Understanding China from its past: How prehistoric development still affects life today. Prof. Chen started the lecture with the historical and archeological background of China, followed by a data analysis of the seven prehistorical cradles of civilization during 3000-1700 BCE, to share how historical factors have had an impact on the spatial pattern and development of contemporary Chinese economy and society.

Students participated actively in the Q&A session to discuss with Prof. CHEN. It was a great opportunity for students to understand China’s economic and social development from historical perspectives.
