I particularly appreciated how the Department not only focuses on practical courses but also on contemporary literary works from a variety of genres.

After graduating from Lingnan in 2010, I worked full time for two years before taking a Masters of Arts in Translation at another university in Hong Kong. I am currently working in the communications and entertainment industry. My language ability has definitely allowed me to get more opportunities and offer professional support at work.

The intimate teacher-student relationships and the carefully-designed programme were two of the things that I appreciated the most in the Department of English. With small class sizes, we were able to have in-depth discussions and exchanges of ideas. Professors, lecturers and tutors were willing to offer help and guidance whenever we needed.

Besides, I particularly appreciated how the Department not only focuses on practical courses but also on contemporary literary works from a variety of genres. Contemporary literature, to me, is more relatable to the social context and easier to understand when it comes to the use of language. During my exchange semester in the US during my final year, I was able to engage with classmates in the American Literature class, and had great discussions about the cultural differences noted by American-Chinese writers.

The one-month summer programme in the UK was unforgettable too. I can still remember vividly the enjoyable moments we had during the trip and how nice Prof. Ingham was to all of us!

Thank you, Department of English, for nurturing me, and for all the wonderful memories.
