Themed “Recognize Our Uniqueness” this year, the Equal Opportunities Awareness Campaign Opening Ceremony will feature a series of activities ranging from different culture‘s dance performance like, Flamenco and traditional Thai Dance. There will be secondary school SEN students’ performance and participants will be able to listen to their story when watching their performance. There will be some game booths, blood-donation truck, exhibition booths, and showcase of the photography by people with autism spectrum disorder. All in all, this is an excellent opportunity for students to meet with other students and people from a diverse background in a relaxed and musical way.

Ms Mariko Drayton, flamenco teacher and performer, will talk about the history of flamenco and Gypsy culture. She will teach us some basic flamenco steps, with demonstration.

Talk: “Prevention of Sexual Harassment on Campus/in Hostel”

Speaker will walk through the definition of sexual harassment, unlawful acts which will be seen as sexual harassment, sexual harassment liabilities and defence, as well as latest research findings of sexual harassment among university students in Hong Kong. Being equipped with some basic knowledge, students will be further taught skills on how to prevent sexual harassment in the hostel and on campus. Court cases and videos will be used to facilitate the learning process.

Talk: “Introduction of Services of the Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department”

The Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department provides free recruitment service to employers and free employment service to job seekers with disabilities, including those with visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical impairment, chronic illness, intellectual disability, ex- mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning difficulties and attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder. Its objective is to assist people with disabilities in securing jobs in open employment that best suit their abilities, skills, qualifications and experience, with the ultimate aim of integrating them into the community and helping them to be financially independent.

This talk will be especially useful to students with disabilities. The speaker of this talk will give a detailed introduction to the services that are available from the Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department. Special job-hunting skills which are specific to job seekers with disabilities will also be delineated.

“love is in the air” inclusive education workshop will explain the characteristics of different persons with disabilities, and through the concept of United Nations ‘Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, to explain how to build an inclusive campus by enhancing understanding, changing mindsets and taking actions.

This exhibition showcases excerpts from Dear Hong Kong, a photo book of 200 pages featuring inspiring people from different countries, all living in Hong Kong, and their contribution to our city.  The final goal of the project is to show the cultural diversity of the city through personal stories that inspire, break existing stereotypes and widen horizons.

Seminar: “Celebrating Diverse Ethnicities, recognizing minority talent - our stories” cum book launch of 'Ethnic minorities, Media and Participation in Hong Kong: Creative and Tactical Belonging'

This seminar invites some of  the ethnic minorities youths to share their stories of success, but more importantly to discuss their views on the prospects of realizing cultural and racial diversity in Hong Kong: what makes a place 'cosmopolitan'? They will share their experience of coping with life as a migrant, their struggles and ways to overcome problems in their new domicile, and managing racial aggression. The discussion will also include a launch of the book 'Ethnic minorities, Media and Participation in Hong Kong: Creative and Tactical Belonging' authored by Prof Lisa Leung.

The Way We Are” photo exhibition by Equal Opportunity Commission, featuring original photographic works by marginalised communities, including people living with depression, deaf people, people with visual challenges, non-Chinese students, migrant workers, carers, immigrant women from mainland China, and the LGBT community, will be staged at the art gallery.

 

The key messages and stories of exhibition show pieces will be shared to participants. By adopting photo therapy approach, participants will be facilitated to connect with exhibition show pieces explore personal feelings, thoughts and action, while recognize own strengths and challenges.

The anxious feelings always undermine the effectiveness of revision and performance during exams, even though students spent so much time and efforts. Many students shared they yearn to "control" anxiety, however unfortunately this mindset is the key factor that maintains or fuel anxiety. With reference to scientific studies, this sharing aims to respond students' general enquiry about academic anxiety, and enhance their performance in revision and exams.

The involvement of companion dogs as an adjunct to human service professional has been an attractive alternative to conventional interventions. Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) is the term given to interventions where a specially trained dog and professional handler work together, in conjunction with a human services professional (e.g., therapist, social care practitioner, teacher or healthcare provider), to promote improvements in the physical, social, emotional and/or cognitive functioning of a person.

 

In this interactive workshop, we will introduce how Animal-Assisted Intervention (AAI) is functioned by the human-animal team for motivational, educational, and recreational purposes.  Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) could be used for rehabilitation therapy and psychotherapy for dealing with mental health issues.

 

The key message of the workshop is “everyone should have the responsibility to enhance our society with equality and mutual love among human and animals.”
