Establishment of "The Greater Bay Area Insurance Development Research Centre" and

"The Greater Bay Area Insurance Talent Training Base"

On June 11, 2022, Chancheng District (Foshan, Guangdong Province) in Mainland China held a notable finance conference in which district leaders and heads of towns were all present. They participated in the official opening ceremony for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Development Research Centre and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Talent Training Base. The goal of both initiatives is to support innovative research in the fields of finance and insurance. Both initiatives were jointly developed by Lingnan University, Foshan University, and China Taiping Insurance Holdings.

For Lingnan University Faculty of Business, finance and insurance are essential disciplines. The business school offers the MSc in Risk and Insurance Management (MScRIM) programme for postgraduates—one of Hong Kong’s most competitive and distinctive finance and insurance programmes. The MScRIM programme has won the Hong Kong insurance industry’s strong support and high praise.

Additionally, Lingnan University and Foshan University now have plans to collaborate on a “2+2+1” undergraduate and master’s programme in finance and insurance. The programme will be divided into two stages. In the first stage, students will study for two years at Foshan University and two years at Lingnan University. If they meet the graduation requirements of both universities, students will receive dual undergraduate degrees conferred by both universities. In the second stage, graduates who would like to continue their study will study at Lingnan University for an additional year to receive a master’s degree in finance or insurance.

Through this “2+2+1” undergraduate and master’s programme, both Lingnan University and Foshan University aim to not only establish an influential presence in Foshan but also serve the financial and insurance industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The collaboration will likely combine both parties’ excellent resources, take advantage of their respective locations, and continuously cultivate top-tier talents in the fields of finance and insurance. At the same time, the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Development Research Centre and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Talents Training Base marks the continuation of Lingnan University’s mission to nurture high-end talents, promote cutting-edge research, and contribute to the rapid development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
