TPg Career Week 2023 was successfully held from 30 March to 6 April 2023
On the evening of 30 March 2023, it is pleased to announce the opening of TPg Career Week 2023 under the auspices of Prof. SHI Shanshan, Director of Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business.
Prof. SHI Shanshan remarked: “During this week, starting from tonight, we provide a wide array of career-related activities, including job fairs, career-training workshops, recruitment talks, and alumni sharing sessions to enhance students' employability and career prospects. Finally, I wish you all are able to gain much insight from this sharing tonight, enjoy!” Under the theme of " Unlocking the path to starting a great career", we are glad to invite Mr Kenny Wei, the partner of EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice, to share tips for managing a successful career from a seasoned business professional; and Ms Fenghua ZHENG, the Deputy General Manager of HR, Kingdee International (金蝶国际软件集团有限公司), and Executive Dean of Kingdee Business School, to share tips that interviewees need to pay attention to during the job interviews from the HR Professional's perspectives. Prof. YAN Aihua, Associate Director of Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business, also participated in the kick-off session.
Kick-off Session of the Career Week (March 30, 6:45pm – 9:30pm, MBG07) On March 30 (Thursday), we are glad to invite Mr Kenny Wei, the partner of EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice, and Ms Fenghua ZHENG, the Deputy General Manager of HR, Kingdee International (金碟国际软件集团有限公司) as our keynote speakers. Mr WEI will share some tips on managing a successful career, while Ms ZHENG will share tips with interviewees on what needs to pay attention to during the job interviews from HR professional’s perspective.

Sharing from Mr Kenny WEI
Mr Kenny Wei took the lead in sharing his stories of entering the accounting industry after graduating from Lingnan University in 2003, how he strives to accomplished his goals, and how he faced the SARS in 2003 and the financial crisis in 2007-2008, thereby encouraging students to develop career goals, achieve their dream jobs, and grasp Hong Kong’s advantage of integrating cultural diversity to unlock the path to starting a great career. He further shared the three important elements (ABC) of his career success: serious attitude, brainpower and outstanding communication skills. It is believed that all participants have benefited greatly from his sharing of valuable insights and experience.
Sharing from Ms Sinny ZHAO
It was followed with the sharing by Ms Sinny ZHAO, Manager of EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice. She told her formative experience, the story of joining EY after facing setbacks, and her reasons for studying in Hong Kong. She Introduced Ernst & Young's on-the-job training and career development with her exchange experience, encouraging everyone to take advantage of learning opportunities in the workplace to achieve self-enhancement. Furthermore, Sinny provided recipes for success in interviews from the perspective of the interviewer, including a positive mental attitude, fortitude at work, and sufficient prior preparation. She further concluded with a comment on different stages of life by Paul Orfalea, the founder of Kinko's, advising students to strive for improvement and exploration of strengths.
Sharing from Ms Fenghua ZHENG
Ms ZHENG Fenghua analyzed the structure of the human resources system in detail, especially the secrets of success in job hunting with the introduction of the STAR interview method.
She further explained in detail the standard for evaluating interviewees from the wording of the resume and the conversation in the interview, measuring the job suitability from all aspects, and hiring the most qualified talent.
Ms ZHENG Fenghua also highlighted several key points that needed to be considered:
1. Salary is difficult to predict accurately, we need to reflect on our value proposition, increasing salary through excellent performance rather than negotiation;
2. Applicant should be concerned about improvements, enjoying any achievements during the job-search journey;
3. Interviewers also value the interviewer's work motivation.
The kick-off session was concluded by the question-and-answer session, speakers received enthusiastic responses, answering pouring questions from students, including the differences in the recruitment process between Chinese companies and overseas enterprises, and job-hopping.
Besides, Mr Harry HO, the General Manager of Kingdee International Software Group (HK) Ltd., introduced its background and job opportunities to students. Colleagues from the human resources department even collected students’ resumes on-site, which is a rare opportunity that must not be missed!
Job Fair (March 31, 12:00nn – 5:00pm, Skylight Plaza, Kin Sun Square) On March 31 (Friday), All TPg students are welcome to meet prospective employers and submit job applications on-site!
On March 31, more than 12 companies were invited to exhibit at Kin Sun Square (Skylight), introducing company background and job information to students. Prof. Nancy CHEN, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Business, and Associate Directors and Programme Directors of Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business, greeted and expressed gratitude to all exhibiting companies. Students seized the opportunity to communicate with company representatives in person, submitting their job applications with resumes! Let's relive the grand scenes of the job fair!

With graduation approaching, students may feel anxious and worried about the future. To better understand the employment situation after graduating from Lingnan University for current students, TPO is honoured to invite 6 alumni for two consecutive nights on 3 April and 4 April to share stories of navigating their careers and advancing studies in Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas.
Alumna from MAcc Ms Muse CHEN, an Alumna of Master of Accountancy (MAcc), shared workplace survival skills and her experience of job hunting. She eventually encouraged students to cherish the existing time and explore the world to achieve work-life balance.

Mr Jack HUI, an Alumnus of Master of Finance (MFin), shared his experience of advancing study in Hong Kong and overseas. He further provided a summarized analysis of admission requirements and interview experience of various universities with his valuable experience, encouraging students to strive for their goals.

Alumna from MScMIB
Ms Jane LEE, an Alumna of the Master of Science in Marketing and International Business (MScMIB), provided tips on preparing for job hunting in Hong Kong, and encouraged students to leverage existing resources from Lingnan University. She concluded the sharing by providing an in-depth analysis of the cultural differences in the workplace between Hong Kong and Mainland China, such as a fast-paced office environment, close communication with colleagues, and supportive attitude on expressing opinion for employees.
On April 4th, three other alumni were invited to share their challenges, difficulties and experiences in their job-hunting journey and career path after their graduation:
Alumna from MScBIE Ms Chris XIAO, who graduated with a Master of Science in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MScBIE), currently working at FWD Group Holdings Limited, shared her stories of Integrating into the Hong Kong workplace. She also pointed out that students admitted under the IANG are free to take up and change employment during their permitted stay without the need to seek prior approval from the Immigration Department, encouraging students to explore their dream job.

Mr LIN Wenxin, graduated with a Master of Science in eBusiness and Supply Chain Management (MSceBSCM), currently working at Huawei, shared his experience of job search and four round of interviews in Mainland China, He motivated students to grasp the opportunities of summer internship and campus recruitment, submit job applications actively without giving up hope.

Mr Alan TAN, who graduated with a Master of Science in Marketing and International Business (MScMIB), currently working at Midland Holdings Limited, shared numerous important information about working and living in Hong Kong, including Medical, Housing, Transportation and Visa.

On 6 April 2023, we are pleased to invite Mr Allan LEE, Human Resources Professional, Career Coach and Certified Psychoanalyst, to provide a detailed analysis of preparing impressive CVs and job interviews. He pointed out the importance of personal branding and story-telling in building your resume, Mr Allan LEE further encourage students to mention more experience in extra-curricular activities instead of grades to present more personalities for employers.
Mr Allan LEE also shared five hiring trends and ten talent trends in Hong Kong. He suggested students be well-prepared to address opportunities, including mastering tech skills and focusing on ESG issues. Ultimately, Mr Allan LEE concluded the career workshop with Kazuo Inamori’s success formula, emphasising the importance of positive thinking.
