There are various laws and policies related to employment and below are some general ones that you need to know.
A. Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) Policy
- Non-local students who have obtained a degree or higher qualification of a full-time and locally accredited programme in Hong Kong may apply to stay/return and work in Hong Kong under the "Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) Policy". C. Minimum Wage Ordinance (Labour Department of Hong Kong)
- To protect the well-being of the workforce, starting from 1 May 2011, the Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) comes into force in Hong Kong. The current SMW rate is $34.5 per hour effective from 1 May 2017 and it will raise to $37.5 per hour, with effective from 1 May 2019. D. Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance
- The Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance provides for the safety and health protection to employees in workplaces, both industrial and non-industrial. It is basically an enabling ordinance setting out requirements in general terms. More details are available HERE.
E. Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme
- MPF is an employment-based retirement protection scheme launched in December 2000. Under the MPF Ordinance, employers in all industries should enrol their regular employees (i.e. employees who are at least 18 but under 65 years of age and have been employed for a continuous period of 60 days or more) in an MPF scheme within the first 60 days of employment.
