Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours)

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) - Risk and Insurance Management

The BBA (Hons) Programmes at Lingnan University employ a liberal arts approach to the business education. It emphasises whole-person development which enables its students to think, judge, care and, ultimately, act responsibly in the changing circumstances of Hong Kong, the region and the world. Students will acquire a body of knowledge in the liberal arts and business, in addition to an in-depth knowledge of a specialised field. They are encouraged to read widely and to adopt a critical approach to problem solving. Assumptions underlying theories are questioned and scrutinised in respect of their relevance to events in the business field.

Our BBA programmes proceed from university required courses, and a foundation in the essential business disciplines, to exposure within a chosen specialist area of business, and culminating in a capstone course, designed to facilitate the integration of the various specialisms through joint problem solving and decision-making. The sequence of the curriculum from year to year is intended to help students to experience a sense of intellectual progress and to build their confidence in tackling increasingly complex problems.

The core elements of our curriculum require students independently to formulate conceptual models, to integrate and synthesise knowledge, ideas and information, and, on these bases, to generate solutions to problems in a variety of fields especially the field of business. The approach facilitates the development of the conceptual framework essential for the analysis of problems on an integrated basis.

The relatively small class sizes (usually below 35) of business courses encourage the development of close staff-student and student-student relationships, which are a hallmark of liberal arts teaching and learning. Many business courses contribute to the building of broad-based generic skills through the adoption of team-based in-class activities and team-based out-of class assignments, culminating in oral presentations and written project reports.

Graduates from the BBA (Honours) degree programmes will have received a broadbased education. They will also have followed an area of concentration and thus will be well placed in the job market.
