Lingnan students carry off awards in the Fintech Olympiad 2022 and GBA IBCOL 2022

Lingnan students from the first Blockchain for Business Project-based Internship 2021/22 received a number of awards in the Fintech Olympiad 2022 and GBA IBCOL 2022.

Team Streampay led by Toktar Akhmetov from Kazakhstan (Data Science, Year 1), which proposed a peer-to-peer courses and lectures marketplace with payment streaming technology, won the Best Prototype Award, and Sunny Fan Siu-yeung (Risk and Insurance Management, Year 4) and Trinity Cheung Yuen-man (Cultural Studies, Year 4)’s Team Cherrity received the Award of Merit for their charity proposal in the Fintech Olympiad 2022 hosted by the City University of Hong Kong with the support of HSBC and the Hong Kong Blockchain Society.

 

At the GBA IBCOL 2022, a regional competition amongst students in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau, the team Edcube formed by Kazakhstani students Zhanel Tagayeva (Global Liberal Arts, Year 3) and Aruzhan Zhumagulova (Psychology, Year 3) won the Award of Merit, the Top Tertiary Track Award, and was the runner-up for the EdTech Award. The team’s proposal aims to solve problems experienced by international students applying for schools and overseas working opportunities. They will receive over HKD$10,000 worth of technical resources to launch a production-level pilot scheme.

 

LU launched the Blockchain for Business Project-based Internship programme in 2022 to equip students with essential blockchain knowledge and help them join internship programmes at different organisations. Tuition fee of the programme is fully sponsored by the University for all current undergraduate students.
