Lingnan students win awards in China College Students Entrepreneurship Competition

Two Lingnan student teams have recently won awards in the China College Students Entrepreneurship Competition 2016 held at Chengdu, China, including one Gold Award in the “Entrepreneurship Proposal” category and one Silver Award in the “Social Enterprise” category.

 

Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Innovation & Entrepreneurship Centre, the “Challenge Cup” National Competition Hong Kong Regional Final – Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2016 held in June this year selected 24 winning teams.  They represented Hong Kong to compete against around 400 teams from other regions of China in the national competition.

 

The Gold Award winning project “Elite Recycling Enterprise” in the “Entrepreneurship Proposal” category was proposed by the team consisting of Wilson Chan Wai-ho (Finance, Year 4), Roy Chan Sung-nok (Finance, Year 4), Harry Fok Cheuk-kwong (Finance, 2016 Graduate) and Edmond Shing Long-kit (Accounting, Year 4).  The project proposes to set up a social enterprise to process glass waste with innovative technology, while job opportunities will be provided to people with disabilities.

 

The single-member team of Henry Poon Sing-yu (Accounting, Year 4) was awarded the Silver Award in the “Social Enterprise” category with his project “Xpotential Sanitation Group”. The project plans to establish a social enterprise to produce nutrition products by processing human excrement collected at the slums with innovative method.  Under this model, income of local residents will be increased with their participation in related business activities.
