“Meet the Profession – Networking Evening” connects outstanding students to executive leaders

Lingnan successfully organised the “Meet the Profession – Networking Evening” on 9 November at Conrad Hong Kong.  As a flagship event of the University, it aims to provide an opportunity for over 100 outstanding current Year 3 and Year 4 students from Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Social Sciences to network and connect with more than 100 executive leaders in Hong Kong.  These executives mainly consist of the senior business executives from various fields including accounting, banking and finance, hospitality and tourism, human resources, insurance and risk management, media, NGOs, retail, sales and marketing, as well as entrepreneurs and donors.  The event was initiated by the Career Development Committee with staunch support from the Council, the Court, faculty members and alumni.  Guests could learn about Lingnan students’ outstanding achievements in areas of study, career, community services and sports through the three electronic kiosks set up at the reception, which replaced traditional paper booklets in support of environmental protection.

The event began with the welcoming remarks by Mr Rex AUYEUNG Pak-Kuen, JP, Chairman of the Council, followed by the remarks of Mr Armstrong LEE Hon-Cheung, Chairman of Career Development Committee and President Leonard K CHENG.  A martial arts performance by Lingnan student Ms CHUNG Wing-Laam was specially arranged.  The banquet also featured a talk entitled “Dialogue: Career Paths for Liberal Arts Students” and a panel discussion by Lingnan High-Flyers of diversified majors.  The Lingnan High-Flyers programme is designed to be an exclusive and highly selective programme with an aim to cultivate outstanding students with entrepreneurial mindset and leadership.  This programme consists of training, coaching and competition.  Awardees are sponsored to join study tours to China and Russia, i.e. Belt & Road countries to understand more about the potential opportunities for young leaders.

In his remarks, Mr Lee appreciated the guests’ honourable presence and said that their enterprising spirit, rich exposure and passion in life and career would be the inspiration, motivation and joystick for Lingnan students.  Besides, President Cheng added on Mr Auyeung’s welcome greets and echoed the University’s “can do” spirit, the quest for excellence and the affirmation of its brand promise “Liberal Arts Education • Transformation For Life” by nurturing outstanding leaders and responsible citizens for the society.

Enriched with the top-notch business and market updates, and the insightful sharing by eminent leaders at the banquet, participating students were inspired for their quest for personal and career goals before graduation, whereas all guests witnessed a potential pool of Lingnan talents ready for their business needs.
