Dear Students and Colleagues,

The memorial service for Mr. Jiang Zemin, the late President of the People's Republic of China, will be held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at 10am on Tuesday, 6 December 2022.

Across the country from 10:00 to 10:03am people will observe a three-minute silence as a respectful tribute to President Jiang.

The University will live broadcast the memorial service at Kin Sun Square (Skylight). Students and staff of Lingnan University are requested to observe these three minutes of silence and, in line with Chinese customs, are strongly encouraged to refrain from wearing colourful clothes and holding entertainment activities on that same day. Thank you.

轉變中的世界的新與舊

世界正在轉變中這句說話了無新意,世界不斷轉變,不過一般而言,世界的轉變不容易被察覺。就如互聯網已出現了一段日子,一場席捲全球的新冠狀病毒卻將互聯網的威力顯露無遺。為了防止病毒擴散,學校和各種商業場所都須要關閉。但辛辛學子仍可以透過互聯網進行網上學習,戲院關閉,網上的串流平台大行其道。實體商店關閉,網上購取而代之。更重要的是在這些新景象背後卻是老掉牙的舊問題。不錯學校關閉可以改為網上授課,但清貧的學生家裡未必有電腦,即使有也未必有相應的配套設施進行網上學習。網上購物是商業活動,大多數人都能參與,但卻苦了小本經營的小商戶。當網上購物變為人們的慣性行為時,便再也沒有小本經營了。換言之貧者愈貧,富者愈富的老問題只會變本加厲!世界轉變當然帶來新事物,但卻也可能令老問題變得不可能解決!
