Book to Help the Disabled

10 Sep 2008

“…one day, perhaps, I shall rest, my eyes dry, quietly in my grave.”

This is a quote from the book on Ms Li Ching, Lingnan University's 2004 graduate who jumped to her death on 1st March 2008, after a 26-year struggle with hearing impairment.

In memory of Ms Li, and to highlight the plight of those who are physically challenged, Lingnan University's Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA) has published a book featuring a collection of Ms Li's essays from her own blog. Through these essays, Ms Li, who had suffered from hearing impairment since childhood, relates incidents of frustrations and disappointment from a young age through to adulthood, her memories from secondary school and university, her chess competition trophies, and other vignettes of her short life.

The production costs of the book come from the Lingnan University Ms Li Ching Memorial Fund, with contributions by members of the Lingnan community, and Ms Li's family.

Limited copies of the book are now available for free. If you want a copy, please contact Ms Erica Fung of the OIA at 2616 8975, or at Erica.fung@LN.edu.hk.

You are also welcome to make a donation to the fund, which will help students with impairment at Lingnan University.
