Lingnan University welcomes over 9,000 visitors on Information Day

Lingnan University today welcomed 9,100 visitors, mostly senior secondary students who will sit for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education in 2014 and their parents, at the Information Day 2013. The Faculties of Arts, Business and Social Sciences held programme introduction sessions on their respective admission requirements and curricular structures in 2014/15.

Various academic departments set up booths to introduce their features and organised seminars for the visitors. Dr Alex Wong Ho-lun, Department of Economics, spoke on “Hong Kong Economy in the Eyes of the Yellow Rubber Duck”; Dr Victoria Hui Ka-ying, Department of Sociology and Social Policy, explained “Buddhism and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Technique”; Dr Leung Shuk-man, Department of Chinese, talked about the “Peach Blossom Land” in China and the West and gave an overview of utopian thought in Chinese literature; Dr Mary Wong Shuk-han, Department of Chinese, discussed “Creative Journeys of Music and Literature” with local lyricist Mr Adrian Chow and editor Mr Yuen Siu-cheong.

The Core Curriculum and General Education Office held a short film screening, which was followed by a sharing session on “The Core Curriculum inspires boundless creativity” by Prof Stephen Chan Ching-kiu of the Office; Dr Esther Li Ling-yee, Department of Marketing and International Business; and Mr Jacky Chan, Organising Committee Member of StartLab Hong Kong. Another seminar was held by the Department of Cultural Studies, in which Dr Lisa Leung of the Department and ethnic minority actors Mr Ricky Chan and Mr Peter Chan were invited to discuss “The prospects and challenges for ethnic minority youths in the Film and TV industry in Hong Kong”.

Meanwhile, the University also hosted the 17th Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Inter-collegiate Invitation Tournament, an annual sports gala in which athletes from all local tertiary institutions flexed their muscles for glory and honour. Officiating guests of the prize presentation ceremony included Mrs Betty da Silva, member of Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation; Mrs Loretta Shuen, Treasurer of the University Council; Dr Frank Law, member of the University Council & Chairman of the University Court; Mr Edmund Leung, Honorary Fellow of the University; President Leonard K Cheng; Associate Vice-President & Comptroller Dr Herdip Singh; and Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) Prof Lee Hung-kai.
