Lingnan University hosts Global Liberal Arts Alliance annual meeting

25 Mar 2015

Lingnan University hosted the annual leadership meeting of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance (GLAA) from 23 to 25 March.

GLAA, with 27 member institutions from 15 countries, had been formed in 2009 with the aim of raising the standard and global dimension of liberal arts education through exchange and collaborations between member institutions. By working together multilaterally, the Alliance is a force with remarkable resources including more than 4,000 faculty members, 50,000 students and extensive strengths. Lingnan University, devoted to promoting liberal arts education with partner institutions internationally, has become a member of the Alliance since 2012.

Thirty-two heads and senior management members of GLAA’s member institutions from four continents joined the three-day meeting. Under the theme “Quest for Worldwide Impact”, delegates shared the best practices on different aspects of liberal arts education, and discussed ways to raise the international profile of their commonly endorsed education endeavours through multilateral collaborations. One of these initiatives will be the Global Scholar Program, which aims to develop in participating students transnational insight, global perspectives and intercultural understanding in order to prepare them for leadership and personal effectiveness in our interconnected world. Under the program, participating students will study at two other GLAA institutions in two different world areas in addition to their home institutions. The Program will be launched in September this year.
