Lingnan University held the Awards Presentation Ceremony 2015 today (13 April) to present a total of 627 awards and scholarships totaling over HK$12 million to 430 students in recognition of their outstanding academic and personal achievements. The number of awardees is about 17% of the total undergraduate population at the University.

Recognising that it is not easy to get the awards and all awardees deserve their prizes for their diligence and hard work, Dr Frank Law Sai-kit, Chairman of the Court of Lingnan University and officiating guest of the Ceremony, reminded awardees about the importance of modesty and that like everything else there is always room for improvement. He encouraged the awardees to continue striving for excellence and aim to reach their future goals.

At the Ceremony, President Leonard K Cheng thanked all donors for their unfailing support to Lingnan University over the past years. “We hope the scholarship recipients will become leaders and innovators, not only of Hong Kong but also of the world. We shall look to them to continue Lingnan’s liberal arts spirit and to contribute their knowledge and skills to serve our community,” said President Cheng.

The 627 scholarship awards totaling over HK$12 million dollars this year represent an increase of seven per cent in award number and ten per cent in money terms over the past year. Among the 430 award recipients, 23 per cent (99 students) receive two awards, and over eight per cent (35 students) even receive three to five awards. As for the total amount of scholarships of each awardee, seven per cent (32 students) receive more than $100,000, with two students getting over $400,000 each.
