Lingnan hosted International Workshop on Globalization, Education and Social Futures

Lingnan University hosted an International Workshop on Globalization, Education and Social Futures on 26 January, drawing distinguished scholars from the UK, Mainland China and Hong Kong, and local postgraduate students for academic discussion and exchange. The workshop is co-organized by Centre for Asian Pacific Studies at Lingnan University and Centre for Globalisation, Education and Social Futures at University of Bristol.
 
In the welcome remarks, Vice-President Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho said the workshop aims to provide a platform for researchers to discuss, share and exchange international perspectives on globalization and education, and develop joint research areas and further collaborations.  It also provided a valuable opportunity for research postgraduate students to discuss their research and exchange ideas with international scholars. Prof Susan Robertson, Director of Centre for Globalisation, Education and Social Futures at University of Bristol, also commented that the workshop, which pooled the efforts of international scholars from across disciplines, will certainly stimulate academic discussions and collaboration.
 
Three regular sessions were held during the workshop. Prof Roger Dale from the Centre for Globalisation, Education and Social Futures at University of Bristol discussed the topic “Globalisation, Education and Social Futures: More than the Mismatch of Skills”; Prof Susan Robertson shared her view on “Piketty, Capital and Education: A Solution to, or Problem in, Rising Social Inequalities?”; and Prof Mok talked about “The Call for Vocationalization of Higher Education: Challenges and Prospects for Liberal Arts Education in Asia”.
 
Also attended to share their researches were Prof Alex Wong Ho-lun and Dr Jiang Jin from Lingnan University, Dr Chen Shuangye and Dr Xu Ying from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Alfred Wu Muluan from The Hong Kong Institute of Education, and Dr Jack Chan Wing-kit from Sun Yat-sen University. Over 20 postgraduate students attended the workshop, with Mr Padmore Adusei Amoah from Lingnan University and Ms Han Xiao from The Hong Kong Institute of Education presented their recent research in the postgraduate student session and joined discussion with scholars and other local postgraduate students.
