PhD students at Lingnan obtain fellowships from Research Grants Council

Three PhD students at Lingnan University received the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship this year.  They are Muhammed Siraj Muhammed who focuses his research in the field of economics, Afua Amankwaa who specialises in sociology and social policy, and Kang Yuyang who has research interests in globalisation and higher education, development study and comparative education policy.

 

Established in 2009 by the Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong’s universities.  The scheme provides an annual stipend of HK$240,000 and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 per year for each awardee for a period up to three years.

 

During the awardees reception organised by RGC on 22 November, Uchechi Shirley Anaduaka, last year’s awardee from Lingnan University, was invited to share her advice with other awardees on how to make their stay in Hong Kong more meaningful.  She suggested fellow PhD students to be open-minded, work closely with their supervisors, travel as much as they can, and take advantage of summer school programmes and conferences organised by their schools.
