I-Gen Series 2018

The Office of Service-Learning (OSL) organised the I-Gen Series 2018 from 16 to 21 July.  This project is under the Jockey Club “We Care, We Serve & We Learn @ Tuen Mun” Programme, which serves as a platform for university students, secondary school students and the elderly to discover different social issues and new projects related to ageing population.  It also aims to introduce the concept of social innovation to the community and train social leaders of different ages.

This series allows participants to understand the operations of different organisations and social enterprises in Hong Kong, and grasp possible innovative ways to address social needs.  Participants visited the co-working space Dream Impact, a community that gathers different social entrepreneurs to promote innovative thinking and concept of social enterprise through the co-working environment.  They spent two hours on learning different startups’ business operations and their visions.  At the end of the session, they were required to design a diverse intergenerational community project under the guidance of the facilitators from Dream Impact.

In addition, OSL invited Mr Kim CHEUNG, Project Officer of Tuen Mun District Council Yan Oi Tong Youth Space and Mr Herman CHAN, co-founder of Eldpathy to share their projects on social innovation.  The Youth Space is one of the major projects of Tuen Mun District Council which allows youths from Tuen Mun district to implement community innovation plans.  Eldpathy is a social enterprise that enables participants to feel and experience the life of an elder by putting on a specially-designed suit, and understand different real-life scenarios and hardship faced by the elders.  In the sharing session, the speakers encouraged participants to conduct multi-faceted analysis according to their business models and promote their innovative ideas in the community so as to better respond to the needs of the society.

At the end of the I-Gen Series, participants from different age groups formed teams to present their innovative ideas on sustainable development, green burial, intergeneration collaboration, home design and more.
