Lingnan University holds Lunar New Year Media Reception 2019

Lingnan University holds the Lunar New Year Media Reception 2019 today (21 Feb) in which President Leonard K Cheng and senior management team of the University shared ideas and happiness with media friends.
In his address, President Cheng pointed out that youth and students in Hong Kong are presented abundant opportunities to explore further and higher in terms of career and personal advancement. “That is why we took the lead in forming the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities two years ago, a network of respectable liberal arts universities across Asia which offers students with global exchange and research opportunities and establishes Lingnan’s standing as an internationally recognised institute through strengthening its ties with prestigious universities across the globe,” said President Cheng.
He also introduced the three new programmes that address the needs of the society to be launched this year at the event. They are LEO Dr David P. Chan Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Data Science, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Global Liberal Arts, and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Animation and Digital Arts. “These three programmes will not only be addressing issues such as how technological advancements - including AI and big data - call for digital and multimedia expertise, they will also strive to equip students with global mindset and experience. This is particularly true for the Global Liberal Arts programme, in which students can exchange in at least two different continents in our partnered universities,” said President Cheng.
He added that the University launched the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative last year. It is a collaborative platform aimed at offering education and service opportunities for students to work together with community partners to further address community needs with a sustainable development mentality and entrepreneurial spirit.
President Cheng also highlighted the success of the “Meet the Profession – Networking Evening” that allowed over 100 outstanding students to connect with more than 100 executive leaders last November. “We are very grateful to witness the support and accreditation that professionals from every sector in Hong Kong give to the Lingnan community,” he remarked.
Lastly, President Cheng mentioned that Lingnan University will continue to look for collaboration opportunities with higher education institutions in the Greater Bay Area, as well as along the Belt and Road region. For instance, the “Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Social Policy and Governance Research Centre” will be co-launched by Lingnan University and the South China University of Technology next month to boost research and studies on the development of the Greater Bay Area.
