Collaboration Agreement Signing Ceremony between Lingnan University and Wuyi University for the Establishment of ‘Joint Research Centre on Ageing in Place’

Prof Leonard K Cheng, the President of Lingnan University and Prof Zhang Kun, the Party Secretary of Wuyi University signed an Agreement of Collaboration today (20 September) for the establishment of ‘Joint Research Centre on Ageing in Place’. The signing ceremony was witnessed by honorable guests Mr Liu Yi, Mayor of Jiangmen City; Mr Li Weimin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangmen Municipal Committee; Mr Wu Rongzhi, chairman of Wuyi University Council; Mr Li Aikang, deputy Party Secretary and Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice President of Lingnan University.

 

The joint research centre is a timely response to ageing issues in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Apart from the joint research centre, both universities will work together to establish a laboratory on smart ageing, organise staff and student exchange activities, and develop joint teaching programmes. 

 

Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University, expressed in his speech that he was delighted to sign this cooperation agreement with Wuyi University, which was achieved thanks to the favourable integration of time, place, and people involved. He stated: “social policy and social service have always been key research areas of Lingnan University. Through establishing the joint research centre on ageing services, and combining the excellent teaching and frontline teams of both parties, this cooperation will undoubtedly bring about much research that can positively benefit society and effectively respond to the needs of national development.”

 

Prior to the ceremony, Prof Dickson Chan Chak-kwan, the Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS), introduced the latest development of Lingnan University and the APIAS, while Prof Zhang talked about Wuyi University’s recent plans. Our guests also visited APIAS, Lingnan University’s sports complex, and the new Jockey Club Gerontech-X Lab, which will be formally launched in November this year.
