Chinese Medicine Clinic to promote health awareness and community wellbeing

The Lingnan University Chinese Medicine Clinic (CMC), which provides clinical services in Chinese medicine and to facilitate teaching and research in the subject area of healthcare, was officially opened on 15 September.

According to Prof Albert Leung Wing-nang, Professor of Clinical Practice at School of Graduate Studies and the project leader, apart from offering one-stop consultation and prescriptions as well as acupuncture services, the Centre also supports research in Chinese medicine and healthcare.

One of Prof Leung’s latest projects, research on how Chinese medicine can prevent the elderly contracting COVID-19, has been given a grant of $395,000 by the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Development Fund of the Food and Health Bureau of the HKSAR Government.

“There are many possibilities for us to include Chinese medicine and research in Lingnan’s programmes, social projects and knowledge transfer initiatives, including the LU Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing Project,” Prof Leung, a respected scholar and educator in the field, and also a registered Chinese medicine practitioner explained.

“The establishment of the CMC is timely in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in promoting health awareness among members of the Lingnan community and the public,” said Prof Leonard K Cheng, LU President. “It will serve as an ideal platform for our academics and students to extend their research on health issues and contribute to community well-being.”

Run by registered Chinese medicine practitioners, the CMC currently serves Lingnan students, staff and other interested Lingnanians at a competitive price, and has plans to extend its services to the Tuen Mun community in the near future.
