LU and HKT have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote gerontechnology in support of smart ageing and socialpreneurship development in Hong Kong, so that HKT will participate in the Gerontech–X Lab and Social Enterprise Intelligent Hub (SEI Hub), two projects in the three-year “LU Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing Project” funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

In the Gerontech–X Lab on LU campus, HKT will demonstrate innovative gerontechnology solutions for elderly care centres related to health monitoring, accident prevention and rehabilitation. And in the SEI Hub, a cloud-based resources platform that connects different interests, HKT will share knowledge to encourage further research into gerontechnology and smart ageing, and provide consultancy services.

Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice President of LU, said “Our collaboration will really improve the operation and services of elderly care centres and help bring gerontechnology into the daily lives of older adults. We hope that innovative gerontech products will be able to satisfy their healthcare, dining, living and transport needs.”

Tom Chan, Managing Director, Commercial Group, HKT, added “Gerontechnology is the key to giving an ageing population innovative opportunities to improve their quality of life and reducing the workload and burden on caregivers in care centres. We are glad to collaborate with Lingnan University to better serve the elderly.”
