The Lingnan Chaplain’s Office distributes Blessing Packs to student residents who tested positive for COVID-19.

As the number of COVID-19 cases increased dramatically in Hong Kong in early March, Lingnan University (LU) has made tremendous efforts and taken extra measures to protect the University community, helping students and hostel residents get through this difficult time.

LU staff from different units are working round the clock catering to students’ needs, such as offering immediate disinfection of areas affected, psychological counselling services and advice, and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits to anyone who has been in contact with infected persons to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.

For the over-thousand local and international students residing on campus, Lingnan respects their decision to leave or stay in the hostels according to individual preferences and judgement. Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President of LU, said the University considers the campus safe because over 80% of LU students have had two doses of vaccine in mid-February.

Warden Offices also offered special arrangements for student residents, including the allocation of designated floors for preliminary and confirmed COVID-19 cases, as well as emotional support from counsellors, medical advice from the LU Chinese Medicine Clinic, and the provision of temporary storage space. For those residents under quarantine on campus, the University arranged meal delivery services and Warden Offices also helped purchase drugs and daily necessities for them to ease their anxiety.

In early March, the University has received a generous donation of RAT kits and was able to disseminate them to staff member and Warden Offices. The Lingnan Chaplain’s Office also distributed Blessing Packs, which contain RAT kits and a variety of snacks, to all hostel students tested positive for COVID-19.

Prof Li Donghui, Associate Vice President (Student Affairs) of LU, said the University hopes that the Blessing Packs would cheer residents up and show its care, in particular in these difficult times. In response, resident students expressed their gratitude to the University on social media.

The Wellness Team of the Office of Student Affairs also launched the “Wellness Hotspot” website for students, in which some physical and mental health tips are provided for students to maintain their physical and mental health.
