Lingnan establishes GBA Insurance Development Research Centre and GBA Insurance Talent Training Base

On June 11, 2022, Chancheng District in Mainland China held a finance conference where district leaders were present at the official opening ceremony for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Development Research Centre and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Talent Training Base. The goal of both initiatives is to support innovative research in the fields of finance and insurance. The initiatives were jointly developed by Lingnan University, Foshan University, and China Taiping Insurance Holdings.

For the Lingnan University Faculty of Business, finance and insurance are essential disciplines. The business school offers an MSc in Risk and Insurance Management (MScRIM) programme for postgraduates—one of Hong Kong’s most competitive and distinctive finance and insurance programmes. The MScRIM programme has won the Hong Kong insurance industry’s enthusiastic support.

Additionally, Lingnan University and Foshan University plan to collaborate on a “2+2+1” undergraduate and master’s programme in finance and insurance. The programme will be divided into two stages. In the first, students will study for two years at Foshan and two years at Lingnan and, if they meet the graduation requirements of both, receive dual undergraduate degrees. In the second stage, graduates who would like to continue their studies will remain at Lingnan for an additional year for a master’s degree in finance or insurance.

Through this “2+2+1” undergraduate and master’s programme, both Lingnan and Foshan aim to establish an influential presence in Foshan, and also contribute to the financial and insurance industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This partnership will combine both parties’ excellent resources, make the best of their respective locations, and continually cultivate top-tier talents in the fields of finance and insurance. At the same time, the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Development Research Centre and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Insurance Talents Training Base confirms Lingnan University’s mission to nurture high-end talent, promote cutting-edge research, and contribute to the rapid development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
