Lingnan University hosts Opening Ceremony of Youth Innovation Start-up Competition

Lingnan University and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Society co-hosted the  Opening Ceremony for the Youth Innovation Start-up Competition on 15 July, attended by over 150 representatives from supporting organisations, university partners, and students.

 

Guest of Honour Dr Bernard Chan Pak-li JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, together with Mr Wilson Or Chong-shing MH, Chairman of the Kwun Tong District Council, and Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice President of Lingnan University, officiated, and in his speech Dr Chan said "Young adults in Hong Kong are trained to be biliterate and trilingual with a strong foundation in creativity. With the immense opportunities and unequivocal support brought about by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, there will be a promising path for students to develop start-ups in Hong Kong."

 

Mr Or thanked the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Society for its generous support in making this competition a platform to guide and nurture dedicated young entrepreneurs. He encouraged young adults to keep learning, and to fight to achieve their goals, and said that he expects the participating teams to launch a vibrant era for Hong Kong.

 

Prof Joshua Mok quoted the HKSAR's 25th-anniversary theme song motivating young adults to pursue their dream "Hong Kong young adults are our future", and looks forward to watching them make the best of Hong Kong's unique and irreplaceable advantages as they work for a better future, and take advantage of the tremendous opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.   

 

Over 100 students attended today’s ceremony, listening to young entrepreneurs describing their original insights and telling stories about their adventures in entrepreneurship.

 

The competition is now open for applications until the end of July. Participants will form teams and propose entrepreneurial projects covering one of five major topics: (1) Smart Living (2) Cultural Creativity (3) Food & Beverage or Retail & Services (4) Health Technology (5) FinTech. They will receive wide-ranging support, including a start-up funding scheme, workshops, professional consultancies, and networking and related resources. The final round is scheduled for 18 September 2022, with the award ceremony held afterwards.
