“The Tin Ka Ping Mainland Scholars and Senior Administrators Exchange Programme 2011” was held from 6 to 12 November 2011 on University campus. This year, nine scholars and senior administrators from mainland institutions participated in the Programme. They came from Hainan Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Northeastern University, Northwest Normal University, Shaanxi Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shaoguan University, Tsinghua University and Zejing Normal University. They attended seminars and met with the heads and representatives of academic departments and administrative units. They also paid visits to the facilities, such as library and hostel, and attended a lecture to gain a better understanding of the University’s liberal arts education.
The Programme is a philanthropic act of Dr Tin Ka Ping who is a staunch supporter of Lingnan’s liberal arts education. Dr Tin donated HK$3 million to the University in 2008, together with and HK$3 million from the government’s matching grant, the University subsequently set up the “Tin Ka Ping Education Fund” in total of HK$6 million to finance the Programme with the aim to promote liberal arts education in Mainland China.
Inauguration Ceremony of Simon and Eleanor Kwok Building
To prepare for the four-year university system, construction of Lingnan University’s new academic building, Simon and Eleanor Kwok Building, has been completed, providing more teaching and learning facilities for the Faculty of Business.
An inauguration ceremony was held on 4 November 2011 and officiated by the donors, Dr Simon Kwok Siu-ming, JP, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sa Sa International Holdings Limited and Dr Eleanor Kwok Law Kwai-chun, BBS, Vice-chairman of Sa Sa International Holdings Limited. They were joined by Ms Sophia Kao, SBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of the University Council; Mr Ben Wong Chung-mat, MH, JP, Treasurer of the University Council; Mr Patrick Ma Ching-hang, JP, Chairman of the Institutional Advancement Committee of the University and President Chan Yuk-Shee.
"Walking with Lingnanians" Fundraising Walkathon 2011
"Walking with Lingnanians" fundraising walkathon 2011 was held on 16 October 2011 with the participation of over 1,000 students, alumni, teachers, staff and friends of the University. Over $1.7 million was raised in support of the University’s whole-person development programmes. As the opening event of “Lingnan University Week 2011”, an annual array of activities of the University, the walkathon this year took the route from Tsuen Wan Park to Sham Tseng along Castle Peak Road.

The 9th and 10th Training Courses for Senior Administrators from East Guangdong Region
Professors of the Lingnan University, and experts from government departments and corporations gave talks and shared their experiences with senior administrators. The two-week Training Courses were sponsored by the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations to strengthen the knowledge exchange between local and Mainland senior administrators.

Signing Ceremony of Dr Helmut Sohmen's Donation
Lingnan University welcomed Dr Helmut Sohmen’s generous donation of HK$8 million on 12 September 2011 to support students with financial difficulties to study overseas and participate in international exchange programmes.
Two scholarships will be established with Dr Sohmen’s donation. The first one will be awarded each year to a top-notch student, known as the “President’s Scholar”, seeking an opportunity to study overseas in his/her second or third year of study. A reputable institution willing to admit the student as a visiting scholar will be selected by the University. The scholarship, which totalled HK$3 million, will be available for 10 years from 2012/13.
The “Sohmen Exchange Scholarships” will provide financial assistance to students in need to participate in international exchange programmes for at least one semester. Each year 15 to 20 students with strong academic performance and financial difficulties are entitled to this scholarship, which will also be available for a period of 10 years from 2012/13 with a maximum endowment of HK$25,000 per student. The awardees will be named “Sohmen Exchange Scholars”.

As part of its preparation for the four-year university system, Lingnan University is about to complete the construction of two new student hostels, Wong Hoo Chuen Hall and Wu Jieh Yee Hall, which will provide about 700 hostel places in early 2012.
A topping-out ceremony was held at the new hostels on 7 September 2011 to commemorate their completion. Distinguished guests who attended the ceremony included the donors, Dr Wong Hoo Chuen and Dr Patrick Wu Po Kong, JP (representative of Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation); Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBS, JP, Chairman of the University Council; Ms Sophia Kao, SBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of the University Council; Mr Ben Wong Chung Mat, MH, JP, Treasurer of the University Council and Prof Chan Yuk-Shee, President of Lingnan University.

Naming Ceremony of Patrick Lee Wan Keung Academic Building
The naming ceremony of “Patrick Lee Wan Keung Academic Building” was held on 3 May 2011. In appreciation of a generous donation of $27 million by Mr Lee Man-bun, Managing Director of Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited, the main building on campus has been named after his father Mr Patrick Lee Wan-keung.
As the University’s landmark, the four-storey “Patrick Lee Wan Keung Academic Building” comprises teaching, cultural-recreational and administrative facilities, including a library, an arts gallery, lecture theatres, classrooms, computer laboratories and the offices of administrative departments.
