Intellectual Property Talk Series: Protect Your Innovation


Further to ORKT’s earlier email on a range of intellectual property (IP) rights protection services in support of innovation and commercialisation of research outputs, as advocated by the UGC, we are launching an IP Talk Series presented by IP professionals for staff and students to learn about protecting your innovation/creation.


Talk 1 (online)

How to Protect an Invention/Creation – Patent, Copyright, Trademark Filing?



This talk will provide an introduction to basic concepts of intellectual property (IP) and intellectual property rights (IPR) for academic staff, researchers, and students. An overview of the different types of IP, the process and requirements for obtaining IP protection, and how IPR can be used to add commercial value to academic research and creative works will be presented.

What is Patent? – Is Software/ICT Patentable?

什麼是專利? – 軟件/資訊及通訊科技是否可申請專利?


This talk will provide an overview of key concepts in the patent system and explore challenges for patenting software and information communication technology (ICT) based inventions. Patent subject matter eligibility of software and ICT based inventions in different countries will be discussed and advice will be provided for how best to position software and ICT related inventions for patent protection.
