Lingnan Host Family Scheme

Introduction

The Lingnan Host Family Scheme was launched in 2008. Staff members are invited to volunteer to be host families of non-local undergraduate students to render care and support, facilitate students’ adaptation and enrich their learning experiences. The host families help students to build up a stronger sense of belonging towards the University, acquire a deeper understanding of local culture and integrate into the life on campus as well as in Hong Kong. On the other hand, hosting a non-local student will be a very rewarding experience for staff member volunteers, who have the chance to understand different cultures and share wonderful memories with their hostees.

 

Details of the Scheme

Eligibility All Lingnan staff members are welcome to participate in the scheme to be host families
Role of Host Family The role of host families is to support and facilitate the new non-local student’s adaptation in Hong Kong. The host families are suggested to arrange at least one to two gatherings/ activities for the new non-local students each term such as lunch/ dinner gatherings, family gatherings, sports, outdoor activities, etc.
Duration of the Scheme The 2023/24 Academic Year (September 2023 to May 2024)
Remarks on Accommodation This scheme is a non-residential scheme. Host families are NOT required to provide accommodation for the non-local students. Students will reside in student hostels.
Activities OSA will organise various activities and events throughout the year to foster a sense of community and belonging among our host families and students.
Host-student Matching OSA will match the students and host families according to their preferences. Every host family will take care of one to two new non-local students. The matching result will be announced via e-mail in late August 2023.
