CHAKRAVARTY, Shamik

PhD Student

I am Shamik Chakravarty, a first year PhD Scholar at Lingnan University. My research interests are in aesthetics, metaphysics and philosophy of language. I am trying to come up with a suitable metaphysics for fictional objects. I endeavour to defend a view which reduces fictional objects to bundles of properties embedded in contextual rules. I also want to link this issue to broader areas in metaphysics like modality, the metaphysics of propositions, grounding and truthmaking.

My Chief Supervisor is Rafael De Clercq and my co-supervisor is Andrea Sauchelli. I am a recipient of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme scholarship, given by the University Grants Committee (UGC).

I have taught Philosophy, English and Creative Writing to High School students and have written books for children. In the future, I would like to popularize academic philosophy, especially in my country, India.
