ALLOCATION OF DISCIPLINE MAJORS (DMs)/STREAMS


Under the BSocSc (Hons) Programme structure, students are required to choose one of the following DMs and Streams. Each DM/Stream has its quota. Should the number of students ranking a particular DM/Stream as their first choice exceed the designated quota, priority for allocation of DMs/Streams will be based on criteria including students' preference, cumulative GPA and the final grades(s) of individual courses, e.g. social sciences foundation courses

1. Discipline Major in Economics
2. Discipline Major in Political Science
3. Discipline Major in Psychology
4. Discipline Major in Sociology
5. China and Asia Pacific Studies Stream (NOT available for first year students admitted from 2018-2019 AY)
6. Social and Public Policy Studies Stream

2012-2013 intake students

In term 1 of year 2, the Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences will hold a DMs/Streams Briefing to brief students the details of the individual DM/Stream, as well as the criteria for allocation of DMs/Streams. Students will then be asked to submit a preliminary ranking of the six options in order of their preferences. Upon release of the examination results in term 2 of year 2, student will submit their finalized preferences.

from 2013-2014 intake students

In term 2 of year 1, the Office of the Facaulty of Social Sciences will hold a DMs/Streams Briefing to brief student the details of the individual DM/Stream, as well as the criteria for allocation of DMs/Streams. Students will then be asked to submit a preliminary ranking of the above six options in order of their preferences. Upon release of the examination results in term 1 of year 2, students will submit their finalized preferences.

from 2017-2018 intake students
In term 1 of year 1, the Office of the Faculty of Soical Sciences will hold a DMs/Streams Briefing to brief student the details of the individual DM/Stream, as well as the criteria for allocation of DMs/Streams. Students will then be asked to submit a preliminary ranking of the above six options in order of their preferences. Upon release of the examination results in term 2 of year 1, students will submit their finalized preferences.


Note:

(1) 2012 intakes: students admitted in 2012-13 academic year are required to complete the four social sciences foundation courses by the end of the second term of their second year.


(2) from 2013-14 intakes: students admitted from 2013-14 academic year are required to complete the four social sciences foundation courses by the end of the first term of their second year.

(3) from 2017-18 intakes: students admitted from 2017-18 academic year are required to complete the four social sciences foundation courses by the end of their first year.
