LU’s Internationalisation and impactful research reach world top standards

Internationalisation in research and student learning is a core dimension of Lingnan University’s (LU) quality education. In the latest QS World University Rankings 2022 announced on 9 Jun 2021, LU is ranked 33rd globally in International Faculty and has achieved a significant advancement by 48-places in International Students.

In “Research Intensity”, LU is classified as “Very High”, the best benchmark in the internationally recognised ranking exercise.

Corroborating this QS World University Rankings’ positive outcome, LU’s research in the humanities, social sciences and business were classified as “World Leading” and “Internationally Excellent” in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020 announced in May, thanks to the University’s first-rate internationalisation effort and supportive research environment. The RAE was conducted by the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong using international benchmarks to identify the areas of relative strengths of the city’s public universities. For LU,

• over 50% of its submitted Research Outputs were rated either world leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*)
• in 9 out of the 14 Units of Assessment over 50% of their Research Outputs scored 3* & 4* [with their scores ranging from 50% to 76%]
• in Accountancy, Sociology & Anthropology, Social Work & Social Policy, and Philosophy LU came first or second among all public universities in terms of the percentage of “World Leading” research work
• in terms of reach and significance 56% of LU’s research were assessed to have achieved “Considerable or Outstanding Impact”.
