LU research recognised in RAE2020 as 'World Leading' and 'Internationally Excellent'

LU is dedicated to serving the community and responding to social needs with impactful research and knowledge transfer activities with humanitarian approach. These endeavours have been recognised in the latest Research Assessment Exercise 2020 (RAE) conducted by the University Grants Committee, which uses international benchmarks to delineate the areas of relative strength of public universities in Hong Kong.

One hundred and nineteen LU staff members submitted 431 research items for assessment to four RAE panels, namely Business & Economics, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Creative Arts, Performing Arts & Design, and more than 50% were rated 4* (World Leading) or 3* (Internationally Excellent).

With regard to the percentage of 4* research, LU is number one in Sociology & Anthropology and second in Accountancy, Philosophy, and Social Work & Social Policy among the public universities in Hong Kong. LU also received the highest percentage in 4* plus 3* research in Social Work & Social Policy and second best in Accountancy.

LU achieved excellent results for “Research Impact” and “Research Environment”, two equally important parameters in the assessment. 56% of LU’s Impact Cases were rated 4* (Outstanding Impact) or 3* (Considerable Impact). In “Research Environment”, LU received 4* in Area Studies, Cultural Studies and Other Arts/Humanities, and 3* for Chinese Language & Literature, English Language & Literature, Philosophy and Accountancy.
