President Qin was invited to attend the first "Future Hong Kong" International Science and Technology Innovation Education Forum and delivered a special report

On 21 November, the first “Future Hong Kong" International Science and Innovation Education Forum and the launching ceremony of 2023 “Science and Innovation Lecture Hall" were held in Hong Kong. The event was jointly organized by the Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance and the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians, with the support of The Science Popularization and Education Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (LOCPG). Renowned international and Mainland scholars and experts in STEM education were invited to come to Hong Kong to share their perspectives and insights on STEM education.

 

 

Professor Joe Qin, President of Lingnan University, was invited to give a keynote speech with the theme “The New Era of Data Science and AI". Taking the teaching and learning, as well as research of data science at Lingnan University as an example, Professor Qin elaborated in detail the relationship between data science with big data, artificial intelligence and statistics. He also talked about the integration of data science with traditional science, engineering, finance, management and other fields. He emphasized that higher education should move with the times, be able to embrace changes, and nurture students' capability to collaborate with AI.

 

Mr. Ren Yonghua, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of the Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance, gave a welcoming address.  Mr. Yang Yuliang, Director of The Science Popularization and Education Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Ms. Michelle Lee, Permanent Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong SAR Government; and Professor Nancy Ip Yuk-yu, Chairman of the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians, also delivered speeches at the occasion. Other invited speakers included Mr Wu Xiangping, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Arnon Hershkovitz, Faculty of Education, Tel Aviv University, Israel; and Associate Professor Chen Wenli, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
