Students learn about the development of the financial sector from top government official

At an online seminar organised by Lingnan University on 15 February 2022, the Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Joseph Chan Ho-lim, spoke to over a hundred students about the development of the Hong Kong financial sector, in particular sustainable finance.

Chan pointed out that the rapid development of sustainable finance in the stock market, bond market, funds, and loans also benefits related professional services such as certifications, accounting and consulting, and offers many career opportunities for local graduates. He added that the green economy will be stimulated by the Government’s $240 billion investment promoting a series of initiatives on climate change over the next 15 to 20 years.

This online seminar is one of many alternative and experiential learning activities LU provides to maintain quality education and student programmes and insights during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to talks from senior officials and experts, LU holds international webinar series, symposiums and conferences with academics and experts in and outside Hong Kong, which give researchers and students an excellent platform to exchange thoughts and address key social issues for the betterment of humankind.
