Lingnan University hosts International Symposium on Africa-China Relations

With the support of the University Grants Committee, Hong Kong, Lingnan University successfully hosted an International Symposium on 12-13 May 2022. The symposium was under the theme: Africa-China Relations in the Post COVID-19 Era. It was organised in partnership with Africa-China Research Network and the Chinese in Africa/Africans in China Research Network (CAAC). This two-day symposium was held simultaneously onsite at the Lingnan University campus and online.

In his opening address, Prof Ka Ho Mok, Vice-President of Lingnan University, iterated the need for more opportunities for collaboration and dialogue to help us understand more about Africa-China relations as the world fights the COVID-19 pandemic.

The symposium was well-attended, with speakers from eight countries/regions, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Austria, the US, Ghana, Kenya, Sweden, and the UK. The presentations covered topics relating to political and economic aspects of Africa-China engagement, people to people engagements, agriculture partnerships and development and education development.

In his closing remarks, Dr Padmore Adusei Amoah, Assistant Professor at the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University, expressed his appreciation to all participants for their contributions to a successful symposium. He indicated plans to host the symposium again next year.
