LU PhD Programme in Psychology with Joint Supervision with South China Normal University (SCNU), China

To offer opportunities for high-quality research postgraduate training, Lingnan University (LU) and South China Normal University (SCNU) will launch a joint PhD supervision in the research areas of Psychology from the 2023 intake. Applicants considering for admission to the PhD programme in Psychology may consider this joint supervision arrangement.
Highlights
Under this joint supervision collaboration:
Students will receive joint supervision from a Chief Supervisor from LU and a Co-supervisor from SCNU throughout their 4-year studies. Both supervisors will closely supervise the students’ studies.
LU will offer monthly postgraduate studentship in Years 1 and 4 while SCNU will offer financial support of RMB800/month for 10 months in Years 2 and 3. Scholarships may be available from SCNU if students have published according to SCNU’s requirements.
During the PhD studies under joint supervision, at least one publication where the student is the principal author with the affiliation of both LU and SCNU is expected (the student can be the second author if the supervisor of SCNU is the principal author).
Upon graduation, students will be conferred a PhD degree in Psychology by LU.
Study Mode and Programme Duration
The collaboration is available in full-time mode. The normal study period is 4 years and students will be a registered student of LU throughout the 4-year study period. They will spend their 1st and the 4th years in LU, and the 2nd and 3rd years in SCNU as a visiting student.
Programme Requirements
Students are required to take the required courses of LU in their 1st year of study in LU, and meet other programme requirements, e.g. topic-defence seminar and confirmation of candidature in the 1st year, annual progress review at the end of each academic year, research findings seminar and thesis examination in the final year. In addition, at least one publication where the student is the principal author with the affiliation of both LU and SCNU is expected (the student can be the second author if the supervisor of SCNU is the principal author).
Award of Degree
Students will be conferred the PhD degree in Psychology by LU. On the students’ transcripts, collaboration with SCNU will be indicated.
Fees and Studentships
Fees
Students under this collaboration will be admitted as a self-financed student. Please refer to https://LN.edu.hk/rpg/admission/fees for fee details.
Students will pay the tuition fees and other miscellaneous fees to LU for their 1st and 4th years of study, and pay tuition and other miscellaneous fees to SCNU for their 2nd and 3rd years (RMB10,000 each year).
Studentships
Each student will receive full postgraduate studentship from LU in the 1st and 4th years of study at LU, and may receive financial support for RMB800/month for 10 months from SCNU in the 2nd year and 3rd years of study at SCNU.
