LU PhD Programme in Sociology and/or Social Policy with Joint Supervision with South China Normal University (SCNU), China

Lingnan University (LU) and South China Normal University (SCNU) have launched a joint PhD supervision in Sociology and/or Social Policy programme since the 2022 intake.
Highlights
Under this joint supervision collaboration:
Students studying the relevant master’s degree programmes or in-service young teachers can submit applications to LU.
Students will receive joint supervision from a Chief Supervisor from LU and a Co-supervisor from SCNU throughout their 3-year studies. Both supervisors will closely supervise the students’ studies.
LU will provide each student a monthly stipend of HK$5,000 during their first 1.5 years of study at LU, and SCNU supervisors will provide each of their students a certain amount of sponsorship based on individual situations during their remaining 1.5 years at SCNU.
Upon graduation, students will be conferred a PhD degree in Sociology and/or Social Policy by LU.
Study Mode and Programme Duration
The collaboration is available in full-time mode. The normal study period is 3 years and students will be a registered student of LU throughout the 3-year study period. They will spend their first 1.5 years in LU, and the remaining 1.5 years in SCNU as a visiting student.
Programme Requirements
Students are required to take the required courses of LU in their first 1.5 years of study in LU, and if needed, fulfil programme-specific requirements before moving onto SCNU to continue with their research and thesis writing during the remaining 1.5 years. Besides, students need to meet other general requirements of the PhD programme of LU during their research studies, e.g. topic-defence seminar and confirmation of candidature in the 1st year, annual progress review at the end of each academic year, research findings seminar and thesis examination in the final year.
Award of Degree
Students will be conferred the PhD degree in Sociology and/or Social Policy by LU. On the students’ transcripts, collaboration with SCNU will be indicated.
Fees and Studentships
Fees
Students under this collaboration will be admitted as a self-financed student. They will pay the tuition and other miscellaneous fees to LU for their whole study period. Please refer to https://LN.edu.hk/rpg/admission/fees for fee details.
Studentships
