Topics to be covered

In this workshop, Professor Wong aims to introduce to research postgraduate students from different disciplines the experimental method of doing micro-level empirical research:

  1. How much can we learn from descriptive statistics and correlative patterns? 
  2. What steps can we take to obtain causal estimates between factors and what are the limitations of these methods? 
  3. What are the major advantages of using randomized controlled trial (RCT) method in doing micro-level empirical research?  
  4. What are the common challenges and pitfalls of conducting randomized controlled trials?

 

 

Biography of Speaker

Alex Wong Ho-lun is interested in conducting micro-level empirical research using both experimental and non-experimental research methods. His primary research interests are development economics, economics of education and economics of health. Professor Wong has published his work in the Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Economics of Education Review and Journal of Development Studies.
