Faculty and students gather online to celebrate graduation

Although this year's gathering for new graduates of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) took place via Zoom due to COVID-19 precautions, an enjoyable time was had by all. Hosted by Dr Xiong Weiyan, Research Assistant Professor, SGS, the virtual Graduate Gathering featured an inspiring address by Prof Joshua Mok, the Dean of SGS, and even a live performance of the American folk song by Dr Stanley Wong, which was a musical response to the pandemic.

Prof Mok congratulated the graduates and noted Lingnan's recent achievements, including its position of 2nd worldwide for Quality Education in the THE University Impact Rankings 2020.  Prof Mok stressed Lingnan's standing as an international institution and said that graduates may wish to continue their academic studies at the University to take advantage of the global opportunities it offers.

"As a Liberal Arts university, Lingnan's motto is 'Education for service'. I hope that no matter where you go, no matter where you work, you carry the DNA of Lingnan University. Let's work together for a better world," Prof Mok told graduates.

Following Prof Mok's address, students from three programmes shared their experiences of studying at Lingnan. A special mention was made of Dr Kang Yuyan, who achieved her PhD in 2020, and -- as Prof Mok noted -- gave birth to a baby boy during her studies. The virtual Graduate Gathering took place on 10 December and can be viewed in full in the video.
