On 22 May 2023, Professor Ka Ho Mok, the Vice-President, Lingnan University, presented a paper entitled"Health Hazard and Symbolic Violence: The Impact of Double Disturbance on International Learning Experiences" at the Annual Conference of the Centre for Global Higher Education at University College London's Institute of Education. The paper was based on his recent research, in which Professor Mok critically examined how the COVID-19 pandemic and growing tensions between China and the US and its allies have affected international student mobility. Drawing on survey research findings, Professor Mok highlighted the prominent concerns of public health and personal safety as major factors affecting Asian and Chinese students' motivations and plans for overseas learning.

The conference was well-attended, with around 150 participants from different parts of the world attending the first day of the face-to-face event successfully held at UCL. On 23 May 2023, Professor Mok, a core international partner of the Centre for Global Higher Education, chaired a panel with a theme of"Democratizing collaborative professional development on LN SDGs: From MOOC to CoMOOC" with speakers Professor Diana Laurillard and Dr Eileen Kennedy from UCL Institute of Education, and Professor Preeti Shroff as discussant from Northwestern University.

Professor Mok's research related to international student mobility was also reported in a recent article published in US China Today.
