LU and University of Stavanger Co-hosted Research Symposium to Promote Collaborations



On 31 October and 1 November 2022, Lingnan University (LU) and the University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway, successfully co-hosted the Stavanger-Lingnan Research Symposium 2022 titled “International Mobility, University Governance, and Labour Market Relevance: The Nordic and East Asian Perspectives”. This event received support from the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP), LU School of Graduate Studies, LU Institute of Policy Studies, and UiS Research Network for Smart Sustainable Cities.


The two-day Symposium, held in the hybrid mode in the city centre of Stavanger, welcomed more than 60 onsite and online participants from Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, the UK, and the US. Four keynote speakers—Prof Hugh Lauder from Bath University, Prof Ka Ho Mok from Lingnan University, Prof Bjørn Stensaker from the University of Oslo, and Prof Yuzhuo Cai from Tampere University shared their research on human capital theory, university graduate employment, higher education governance, and the internationalization of higher education. In the panel sessions, scholars from different countries and regions presented their studies on international higher education and student mobility, education policy and quality assurance, graduate employment, entrepreneurship and innovation, and other relevant topics.


Led by Prof Ka Ho Mok, Vice-President of LU, the Lingnan team, including Prof Weiyan Xiong and Prof Padmore Adusei Amoah, Assistant Professors of the School of Graduate Studies, attended the Symposium in person and had fruitful discussions with the UiS team on research collaboration, course co-offerings, and student exchanges. The Stavanger-Lingnan Research Symposium is a featured achievement of two universities’ collaborations, and the following year’s Symposium will be held at LU in Hong Kong.
