Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry into this programme, candidates should:

a) hold a relevant bachelor’s degree with first or second class honours or at an equivalent standard awarded by a tertiary education institution recognized for this purpose by the University; or

b) have obtained an equivalent qualification; or

c) have provided satisfactory evidence of academic and professional attainment.

 

For an applicant who applies for the Lingnan MAIA degree, he/she whose degree, or exceptionally, an alternative qualification deemed equivalent, is not from a tertiary institution in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country, should obtain proof of English proficiency through one of the following:

a) a band score of 6.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

b) a minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

 

Apart from IELTS and TOEFL, we also consider the following alternatives on a case-by-case basis:

a) a minimum score of 475 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test (CET) Band 6; or

b) an equivalent score in a recognized test, or an equivalent qualification to prove his/her language proficiency.

 

Interviews may be conducted when needed.

Application Method

To apply for the MAIA programme, applicants are required to submit the following application materials through the online application system:

  2. A personal statement written in English with no more than two pages of A4 paper
  3. Copy of academic certificate(s)
  4. Copy of academic transcript(s)
  5. Copy of English language proficiency result(s)
  6. For scholarship applicants, 2 recommendation letters (in sealed envelopes, sent directly by referees and addressed to the MAIA programme, Department of Political Science office; the letters are not required for “admission-only” applicants)
