The thirteenth Policy and Comparative Development Studies Seminar Series was held on 21 April 2022. The seminar was presented by Mr. Deng Changgen, with the theme of ‘Studies of Policy Support and the Development of Private Schools in Shenzhen--In the perspective of nine-year compulsory education stage’.

Shenzhen is the experimental field and vanguard of China's reform and opening up. Private schools account for about 35% of the modern city. In the past decade, private schools have developed rapidly. They are helping the government to provide a large number of school admission quotas for school-age students. Private schools have made great contributions the education industry in Shenzhen. With the increasing number of public schools, private schools are facing great challenges. Government departments have issued a series of policies to support the development of private education in Shenzhen, but private schools are still calling for more policy support, and there should be a gap between the actual needs of private schools and those provided by government departments.

During the presentation, Mr. Deng Changgen first shared the background and theoretical basis of the study, and then used comprehensive research methods to find out the policy support needed by private schools, while calling on private schools to adjust their strategies to meet the challenges.
