Hostel Residence Policy

The Senate at its meeting of 14 March 2011 approved the following SHMC recommendations on hostel residence policy to take effect from 2012-13 onwards

a)

All UGC-funded students who will study in the University for four years will be required to reside in student hostels for at least two years;

 [There is no maximum limit for student residency.  In other words, students can reside in hostels for all 4 years of their studies.]

b)   All UGC-funded senior year students who will study in the University for two years will be required to reside in student hostels for at least one year; and
c) To help new students adjust to university life, all first year students of the 4-year system should reside in student hostels.

The existing policy that all first year students of the 3-year system should reside in hostels would remain unchanged.  The fulfilment of the required hostel residence will be recorded in the Certificate of Awards and Participation.  Only students with very special reasons may apply for exemption of hostel residence and they will be considered case by case.
