Jackie Chan Icon

With the support and donation from the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, the gymnasium at Lingnan University was completed in October 1997.  It is named after Dr. Jackie Chan.  The Jackie Chan Gymnasium was the largest single donation ever granted by the Foundation which supports projects that promote the health development of young people in Hong Kong.

To celebrate the grand opening of the Jackie Chan Gymnasium, an inter-collegiate basketball invitation tournament was organized. Honorary guests included Dr. Jackie Chan, Sir David Akers-Jones, Sir Raymond Chau, Prof. Edward Chen and Prof. Nyaw Mee-kau officiated the grand opening. Immediately after the grand opening ceremony, the First Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Inter-collegiate Basketball Invitation Tournament commenced. Men and women basketball team from eight tertiary institutions were invited to compete for the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup. The players from the eight institutions highly appreciated the support from the Foundation in sponsoring this event.

Dr. Jackie Chan was invited to present the prizes to the winners at the Second Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Inter-collegiate Basketball Invitation Tournament. Dr. Jackie Chan had been very kind to prepare the special designed trophies for the Champion of the Tournament. The trophies were designed using his hand as model holding a gold basketball. He also encouraged the University to organize one more Sport Tournament and therefore the Inter-collegiate Table-tennis Invitation Tournament was included from the Third Jackie Chan Challenge Cup onward.

Dr. Jackie Chan presented at the Prize Presentation Ceremony of the Sixth Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Inter-collegiate Basketball and Table-tennis Invitation Tournament in 2002 and enjoyed watching the matches and meeting the players.

With the support from Dr. Jackie Chan, Sir David Akers-Jones and member of the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, soccer competition was organized from 2003, volleyball competition from 2006, and rowing championship from 2008 respectively.
