In their omnibus film Memories to Choke On, Drinks to Wash Them Down (2020), writer-directors Leung Ming-Kai and Kate Reilly offer up electric conversations and complicated self-presentations unfolding amidst a changing city. Winner of the Best Screenplay Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society, the film charmingly shifts between romantic comedy, non-fiction, and family drama modes, but always remains grounded in the territory of Hong Kong and its residents as they reveal and obscure guarded truths about their past, their present, and their futures. In addition to its recent screenplay award, the film is currently back in Hong Kong cinemas. Our very special event will feature a post-screening discussion between writer-director Leung Ming-Kai, writer-director-actress Kate Reilly, and Visual Studies Prof. Wesley Jacks. There will also be time for students to speak with the filmmakers during the Q&A.

*Film screening not included for online session.
