The third session of “LU Roundtable for Learning & Networking” was successfully held on 19 April 2023. We will continue to organise this event for you to connect with alumni and professionals in your field of interest. In each session, a specific sector will be focused and professionals in that sector will be invited to share their career stories and valuable insights with participants, followed by tea reception / dinner for networking.

In June, we will focus on the Investment sector and are excited to have two professionals - Mr Derek Mok, Chief Investment Officer, Fubon Fund Management (Hong Kong) Limited, and Mr Emil Chan, Co-Chair, Hong Kong Digital Finance Association, to be our guest speakers. Whether you are young alumni pursuing successful career development in the Investment industry, or experienced executives aiming for professional advancement, this event is perfect for you!

About Mr Derek Mok

 
 

Mr Derek Mok is the Chief Investment Officer of Fubon Fund Management (Hong Kong) Limited, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Fubon Financial Holding Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong.

Before that, Derek was the Head of Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer of RHB Asset Management Limited, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of RHB Investment Bank Berhad, and Director of Investment of Haitong International Asset Management Ltd. where he was responsible for managing Mandatory Provident Funds, unit trusts and private funds. Derek was also a Portfolio Manager with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, responsible for managing the global equity portfolio exposure for the Exchange Fund by using instruments including options and futures, treasuries, and various government sovereign bonds.

Moreover, Derek had worked in other renowned asset companies, including Guotai Junan Assets (Asia) Limited and BEA Union Investment Limited, responsible for managing portfolios from insurance company, university and pension funds.

 

About Mr Emil Chan

 
 

Mr Emil Chan is a highly accomplished and respected figure in the world of finance and technology, with a career spanning several decades. He has played a key role in shaping the cross-border financial landscape, from traditional banking to cutting-edge Web3 and DeFi business strategies.

In his role as a FinTech evangelist and digital transformation consultant, Emil has advised numerous corporations and SMEs on how to navigate the rapidly changing digital economy. He is a startup mentor and advisory board member of the Cyberport Startup Committee, where he helps guide and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Emil is also committed to building a nurturing environment for the FinTech ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area. He has been a adjunct professor, visiting lecturer, and guest speaker at several renowned universities for over 10 years, including CityU, HKU, PolyU, HKUST, HKBU, CUHK, LingnanU and VTC. His insights and expertise have helped to inspire and educate countless students and professionals.

Emil's contributions to the digital ecosystem extend beyond the finance sphere. He is the Founding Chairman of the Cloud and Mobile Computing Professionals Association, Co-Chair of the Hong Kong Digital Finance Association, Chairman of the FinTech Committee of the Smart City Consortium, Honorary Secretary of Invotech, Vice President of the Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Association, and more.

Through his leadership and expertise, Emil has played a vital role in shaping the future of finance and technology in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. His tireless efforts to build a strong and nurturing ecosystem for the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs have earned him widespread respect and admiration.
