Teaching and Learning
We offer undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research postgraduate programmes in the areas of Arts, Business and Social Sciences, and our broad curriculum covers an array of general education and interdisciplinary courses to provide students with a firm knowledge foundation across different subjects.
Our full-time undergraduate programmes leading to honours degrees are grouped under three categories and the disciplines include:
Integrated and Balanced Curriculum
All of our undergraduate programmes feature a distinctive style of integrated and balanced curriculum. This underlies our commitment to broaden and enrich the scope of students’ learning.
Comprehensive Core Curriculum
The Core Curriculum, taking up a large proportion of the 120 credits, is an essential part of our undergraduate curriculum which provides students with a broad and balanced foundation through an exposure to a wide range of cross-disciplinary subjects. It is made up of a Common Core with four required courses and five clusters. Designed to cultivate in the students a crucial set of generic and transferrrable skills treasured highly and widely by educators and employers across the globe, the Core Curriculum is crucial to the realisation of a cohesive, humanistic and all-round education for students in Hong Kong today.
Science Education in the Curriculum
To develop students’ science literacy, general science courses under the Core Curriculum are provided by our Science Unit which was established as part of the Office of the Core Curriculum in 2014. The Science Unit will increase students’ understanding and awareness of science through courses, formal and informal public lectures, and engagement with the campus and local community.
Our English and Chinese courses constitute 15% of the four-year undergraduate programme. The Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) and Chinese Language Education and Assessment Centre (CLEAC) have been providing language support to help students enhance their language ability and succeed in their academic studies.
