Over the last few months in support of teaching and learning across the University we have conducted 21 staff workshops as part of our INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGY SERIES. … conducted 10 student workshops as part of our STUDENT DIGITAL FLUENCY SERIES. For example, on Mobile Learning, AI, Data Science, Video Editing and 3D Modelling (453 students [head counts] attended TLC workshops, 4.1 / 5 aggregate feedback on the usefulness of the session)

“ADVANCING BLENDED LEARNING @ LINGNAN TO A NEW STAGE”
Why Blended Learning @ Lingnan?
Advancing blended Learning @Lingnan to a new Stage (ABL) is an approved project for a Top-sliced Portion of the 2019-22 Teaching Development and Language to achieve the Strategic Plan 2019-2025,
“ to develop smart teaching and learning and other cutting-edge pedagogies with the help of new digital education technology to support teaching and learning endeavours to meet students’ new learning needs in a rapidly changing world”.
What are the aims of the project?
- To increase the quantity and quality of Blended Learning across the University
- To provide for staff and students a suite of resources and professional development opportunities as related to Blended Learning
- The creation of various communities of practice as agents of change to enhance sharing of ideas re blended learning
- Collaboration on Blended Learning Initiatives through partnering with interested institutions in AALAU (Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities) and GLAA (Global Liberal Arts Alliance)
We have an ambitious goal that 100% of all Courses
at Lingnan will have some eLearning component by 2022!

PILOT of the iPORTFOLIO
A key area of development is the enhancement and rebranding of the ePortfolio system as the University’s iPortfolio system (currently in trial with the Graduate School).
The iPortfolio will provide a customised personal learning environment for students that connects to and complements the Learning Management System (LMS) and offers them a way to map and record their personal journey via portfolio artefacts and learning and career planning resources.

and assessment of your understanding of various
aspects of the use of Information Technology.

TLC has been tasked to take on a more strategic
role in relation to teaching and learning data and
specific to the various surveys across the institution.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2019 - 20 FIRST YEAR and FINAL YEAR STUDENT LEARNING EXPERIENCE SURVEY
The First and Final Year Student Learning Experience Surveys focus on students’ learning experiences and self-evaluation of their achievement of the intended learning outcomes, especially the Graduate Attributes.Of note was that the ratings given by the final year students on their achievement of Graduate Attributes are higher than those from the first year students except for a few items.The top three items rated by final year students are Exchange Experience (Outside Hong Kong) (4.36 to 4.42), Adaptability (4.02 to 4.14) and Intercultural Views (4.00 to 4.09), while the lowest three items rated by them are Curriculum Cohesion (3.51 to 3.43), Chinese Language (3.39 to 3.28) and Workload (3.46 to 3.05).

TEACHING AND LEARNING DATA AUDIT
- In preparation for the QAC 3rd Round Audit, TLC is working with an external consultant to conduct an audit of the variation of ways that the institution collects and uses data related to Learning and Teaching. This consultant will seek input from Stakeholders (Deans, Heads of Departments / Units / Programme Coordinators) on the types of data useful for them for curriculum and pedagogical Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement. They will review the current Institutional Surveys and Student Course Teaching and Learning Evaluating survey as fit for purpose and prepare a written report that identifies a framework for the implementation of Learning Analytics at Lingnan University.
(This report would capture the variation of ways teaching and learning data is captured, stored, accessed and acted upon and also include a benchmark comparison on our current practices with recommendations for improvement).

OBATL SUPPORT
TLC is pleased to support staff in curriculum and OBATL work. In this regard we have reviewed 44 Courses and 8 programmes from April to now. If you would like help to review OR even to have a conversation at the inception of a new Course or Programme please feel free to reach out to your dedicated Faculty Liaison or TLC
We are also working on an Assessment Toolkit as a resource for staff in the creation of rubrics that align with best OBE practices.

OBE Health Check
- In preparation for the QAC 3rd Round Audit, and as a timely exercise to gauge our uptake and adoption of OBATL TLC is employing an external consultant to provide a “Health Check” related to OBE. This consultant will conduct an audit of implementation of Outcome-Based Education across the University. They will seek input from Stakeholders (Deans, Heads of Departments / Units. Programme Coordinators, Academic Staff on the understanding of OBE and implementation. Review a random sampling of Course Syllabus documents and prepare a written report that identifies an OBE Health check for the University in relation to the embedding of OBE across all contexts. (This report would capture the variation of ways OBE has been implemented, benchmarked best practices from other UGC institutions and a comparison on our current practices with recommendations for improvement as appropriate).

In this regard we have established 5 Community of Practices. These communities offer a way to share the collective wisdom of Lingnan staff and students across a number of key initiatives.
